Mr. Jeffrey Holtz, age 59, of Alton, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at his residence.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, December 22, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Stephen Niles will officiate. Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

Jeffrey Alan was born on April 23, 1957, at Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Orville Henry and Lillian Anna (Bartz) Holtz. He was raised on a farm near Westgate, where he attended high school.

On July 29, 1977, he married Heather Niles at Westgate, where they farmed for eight years. In 1986, they moved to Independence, where he was operations manager at Independence Corn By-Products for ten years. He then began working for Halford & Sons as an agronomy salesman. In 2002, they moved to Sheldon, and in 2004, they built a home south of Alton. While living in Northwest Iowa, Jeff worked for the Farmers Co-op Society in a variety of capacities, most recently as operations manager for the company.

Jeff enjoyed spending time outdoors, riding motorcycle, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of more than 39 years; a daughter and her husband, Amber and Larry Bathen, of Minnetrista, Minnesota; a son, Benjamin Holtz, of West Des Moines; a grandson, Spencer James Bathen; a sister, Patricia Rowe, of Eagan, Minnesota; two brothers and their wives, Jerry and Yvonne Holtz, of Cumming, and Gene and Carol Holtz, of Maynard; a sister-in-law, Jane Holtz, of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Holtz; and a brother-in-law, Bill Rowe.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
