Mr. Carsten Funck was born in Iatenace, Hannover, Germany, the 25th of September 1836. His parents were Claus Funck and Catherine Funck, nee Peterson.

The deceased was receive into the Holy Christian Church and Baptized on the 2nd of October 1836, and when having received the necessary instructions was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany.

In the year 1866 he left the Father Land to look for a new home in this beautiful country of ours. He crossed the continent of North America till he came to the Mississippi at Muscatine, Iowa. Here he lived single for four years and in married life for ten years after having married Miss Augusta Geuder, a true companion for the greater part of his terrestrial sojourn on the 7th of August 1870.

In 1881 they came to Sioux County and purchased their home farm. Having farmed there with his children about 20 years, he retired from active farming to live with his wife on the place he had erected for their old age near the home farm.

Mr. Carsten Funck and his wife had three children, one son and two daughters, one of whom died when nine years of age from the results of blood poison.

During the whole course of his life the deceased enjoyed remarkably good health and a rather strong constitution enable him to work on the farm and elsewhere for a long period of years.

Carten Funck, a resident of Lincoln township since 1881 and a properous [sic], respected citizen, died Sunday at his home in Lincoln at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Augusta Geuder Funck, his son Henry August and his daughter, Miss Wilhelmina, his brother Paul and thirteen grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Wednesday from St. Paul's Lutheran church, Lincoln township, the Rev. Paul J. Bunge officiating. The pall bearers were H. Stoehr, H. Strehl, F. Kruse, John Tiedemann, L. Wendorf and H. Breuer. Many friends and relatives came to express their sincere sympathy in spite of the busy time.

Carsten Funck was born at Isensee, near Osten, Hannover [sic], Germany, September 25, 1836. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Claus Funck. He was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church. In the year 1866 [might be 1868] he came to America. In 1879 he was married to Miss Augusta Geuder at Muscatine and in 1881 they moved to Sioux county and purchased their home farm in Lincoln township. [This next part is very difficult to read in the newspaper as it is very dark and smudged] Having farmed there with his children(?) about [unreadable number, maybe 20?] he retired from active farming and he and his wife took up their abode.....[unreadable]....to the home farm....journey ended.
