SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR MRS. FRENCH--LIFELONG RESIDENT OF HAWARDEN DIES SUDDENLY AT HER RESIDENCE

Funeral services for Mrs. Sherman Queal French, 65, life-long Hawarden resident who died at her home Wednesday evening of last week, were conducted at the residence Saturday afternoon.

Reverend T.A. Mansen, pastor of the Associated Churches and Reverend Clarence W. Hanscom of Ottumwa and Reverend William J. Vance of Springfield, Missouri, both former pastors here officiated. Reverend Hanscom gave the sermon. The Barnard Funeral Home had charge.

Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr. accompanied by Mrs. Stella Lage, sang two numbers. Pallbearers were Jack Armstrong, Dave Muilenburg, Oscar Norberg, Al Notson, Earl Slife and Clifford Slife.

Nellie V. Younie was born September 19, 1894, at Hawarden, the daughter of Lewis I. and Nellie V. Younie.

She graduated in 1913 from Hawarden High School where she participated in several school activities.

On January 6, 1914, she married Sherman Queal French of Hawarden. Her survivors include her husband; three daughters, Pauline Slife of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Margaret Clark of Freeport, Illinois, and Harriette Dutton of Chicago; two sisters, Maude Gardner of Hawarden, and Lola Witt of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Richard of Berkeley, California, Clifford of Manilla, Iowa and Raymond of Gann Valley, South Dakota and eight grandchildren.

She early joined the Congregational Church of this city and has been the church secretary for a number of years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Entre Nous Eastern Star, M.I.C. and several divisions of the Woman’s Club. She took special interest on her home and nature.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Younie of Manilla, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Younie of Glenn Valley, South Dakota; Mrs. Robert Witt of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Courtney Slife of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Dr. and Mrs. John Clark of Freeport, Illinois; Mrs. James Dutton of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie French of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Howard French of Titonka, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert French of Rossie, Iowa.
