Gerdena Bomgaars Sikma, 92, of Hull, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 25,2014, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. Services were Wednesday, Jan. 29, at American Reformed Church, Hull, with interment in Hope Cemetery, Hull.

Gerdena was born on July 5,1921, in rural Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Grace (Koerselman) Dokter. She grew up in Middleburg, where she attended a country school. On Dec. 11,1940, she married John N. Bomgaars in Middleburg. They made their home in Sioux County, settling in Hull. John passed away June 3,1974, in Sioux Center. On July 8, 1977, she married Arie N. Bomgaars in Hull. They continued to live in Hull. He passed away July 7,1997, in Sioux City. On June 22, 2004, she married Gerrit James Sikma in Hull. He passed away Aug. 15, 2006, in Hull.

In 2007, Gerdena moved to Sioux Center, where she lived at Franken Manor until
May 2012, when she transferred to Royale Meadows Care Center.

Although always a homemaker, she was also employed at De Jong and Vander Schaaf Hardware Store and later owned and operated Handy Grocery Store. She was a member of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Gladys (Larry) Jacobsma of Visalia, Calif., and June Sneller of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; a son, Lee (Dee) Bomgaars of Hull; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six greatgreat -grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Liz) Dokter of Sioux Center; two stepdaughters, Janet (Erwin) Bonestroo of Steen, Minn., and Lois (Joseph "Ted") Salazar of Hull, and stepson, Gary (Eloise) Sikma of Sioux Falls, S.D.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Elmer Sneller; a grandson and two sisters, Jeanette Vande Griend and Gertrude Van Gorp
