Alton Democrat Oct 2, 1885

Word was received in Alton last Sunday that Arie Bomgaars,a son of H. Bomgaars, had been killed by the cars near Creston, Iowa, the night before. It Seems that the unfortunate young man had just begun braking on the C , B. & Q. road and was on his first trip. Near Creston there is a heavy grade, and he started back from the engine to set the brakes while going down this grade. This was the last seen of him alive. It is supposed that while walking back, or setting a brake, his foot slipped and he fell off. At Creston he was missed, and when the train backed up lie was found lying dead by the road. In falling he had struck his head against the end of a tie, crushing the skull. The body arrived here Monday morning and was buried the same afternoon, Rev. Warushuis preaching the funeral sermon.

Note: The Sioux County cemetery index lists Arie H. Bomgaars born 1865 died 1885 buried Nassau Cemetery Alton IA.

According to a family report on ancestry.com He was the son of Hendrik Bomgaars 1821-1891 and Alida Boland 1830-1880
