Gerrit Van Grootheest, 17, hospitalized at Sioux Falls since last March when he was struck, by a falling tree at a farm near Rock Valley, died Wednesday night. He had not regained consciousness since the accident. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Grootheest who resided west of Rock Valley. The youth had been watching workmen fell trees when the accident occurred. Gerrit was born Nov. 2, 1938, at Fairview, S.D.

Survivors, besides the parents, are six brothers, Cornie, Tony, Henry, Wilbur, Lawrence, and John; five sisters, Tracy, Betty Jean, Revina, Jo Ann and Harriet, all at home.
Funeral services were at 12:30 p. m. Saturday at the Vander Ploeg funeral home at Rock Valley and at 2 p. m. at the Netherland Reformed church in Rock Valley. Rev. J. Van Zweden officiated.
