PARENTS OF ALTON BOY STILL HAVE HOPE

“We still have a faint ray of hope." These words were spoken Thursday evening by Joe Schuver, whose 20-year-old son, Henry, was reported aboard the military transport plane which vanished over the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday night, Oct. 10. Probably Mr. Schuver's words reflected the attitude of the entire town of Alton, where the shocking news spread in a flash Thursday, after Mr. and Mrs. Schuver received the telegram from the Air Force. Other members of the family of six—of which Henry was the last-born were gathering Thursday evening at the family home at Alton where the Schuvers moved when Mr. Schuver's heart ailment forced him to retire from farming at Granville, la. Included in the family, besides the parents, are two brothers, Walter, farming on the Schuver farm at Granville, and Lt Rudy Schuver at Fort MacArthur, Cal., and three sisters, Mrs. Leroy Conz of Alton, Mrs. Marvin Viederholt of Remsen, and Mrs. Martin Gaul of Le Mars. Mr. Schuver Thursday evening spoke of Henry's recent visit to France, while the young airman second class was serving in England with the Air Force. Henry had written his father of a visit to Alsac Lorraine, where Mr. Schuver was born. "I was looking forward to hearing about it," the grieving father said Thursday. Henry was born Dec. 13, 1935, at Granville, and was graduated in 1953 from St. Joseph's Catholic school there.
Following his graduation, he attended a business school at Omaha, and later worked at the Swift & Co. plant there.
He enlisted in the Air Force for a four-year term in April, 1955. He took his basic training at Parks Air Force base, Cal., and advance training at Biloxi, Miss. He was transferred to Lincoln last March. Henry had been at London for the last three months, taking overseas training. He was expected to arrive at Lincoln Friday.
