From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 4, 1921:

Little Boy Drowns

The funeral of the little four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Case VanBatavia who reside near Luverne, Minnesota, who was found hanging head down in a barrel of water last week Friday, was held from the First Reformed church of Hull, Wednesday afternoon and burial was made in beautiful Hope Cemetery. The death of the little one in this manner is surely a sad blow to the parents and brother and sisters, and the sincere sympathy of their numerous old friends and neighbors is extended to them. Rev. J. H. Kregel preached the funeral sermon.

From the Alton Democrat, March 5, 1921: Hull news:

Word was received this week from Steen, Minn. of the accidental drowning of the three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Case Van Batavia. The little boy was drowned in a barrel of water. This is a hard blow to the family. The Van Batavias had lived for many years on the old Peter Jensen farm northeast of Hull from which place they moved to Steen last year.
