From the Alton Democrat, March 5, 1921:

Sunday morning word spread thru the community that W. De Roos had passed away. He had been ailing for some time. His children were all present at the time of his death. They are John of Sanborn, Chas. and Dowie of Sioux City, W. W. of Hull and Mrs. John Hoksbergen of Hull. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon.

From the Sioux County Index (Hull), February 25, 1921:

W. J. DeRoos Dead

The funeral of Mr. Wm. J. DeRoos, who died last Saturday, of diabetes, was held Wednesday afternoon, February 23rd. The services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Kragel, from the home at 1:30 o'clock and from the First Reformed church at 2:00 o'clock A large concourse of friends being present. Mr. DeRoos was a good Christian man and all who knew him loved him, and his place here on earth will be hard to fill. He was over seventy years old, and is survived by a number of sons and daughters, nearly all of whom were present at the funeral. An obituary is being prepared for our next issue.

Researcher Wilma J. Vande Berg found the following information: The Sioux County cemetery lists W. J. De Roos as born 8 Dec 1846 and died 20 Feb 1921 buried Hope Cemetery at Hull IA. According to a report on ancestry.com done by others: Willem Jan De Roos was the son of Hendrik Jan Willem De Roos 1816-1902 and Akke Klazes Visser 1835-1900. He was married to Pietje Tjallings Reitsma 1846-1912, see her obit.
