Miss Joan Ver Steeg, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, November 15, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Joan Fay was born on July 27, 1934, in Orange City, the daughter of John K. and Jennie (Van Veldhuizen) Ver Steeg. She was raised at Orange City, where she graduated from the public high school.

She first was a bookkeeper for the Farm Bureau in Orange City. For most of her working life, she was employed in the office of the Orange City Medical Clinic.

Over the past several months, Joan resided at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen and the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community and the Prairie Ridge Care Center, both in Orange City.

She was currently a member of the First Reformed Church and a former member of the Trinity Reformed Church, both in Orange City.

She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, babysitting, bicycling, fishing, gardening, and knitting.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Walter and Providencia Ver Steeg, of Plymouth, Minnesota; two nieces, Deanna Ver Steeg, of Chicago, Illinois; and Liesl Euliss, of Springfield, Missouri; a grand-nephew, Calvin Euliss; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, “Jack” and “Jen”.
