Miss Myra Vander Broek, age 96, of Maurice, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, November 11, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Revs. Lyle Vander Broek and Wick Hubers will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 1:00 to 1:30pm, at the funeral home.

Myra Nelvina was born on January 28, 1920, at Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit and Nellie (Van Roekel) Vander Broek. She was raised on a farm and graduated from the Maurice Public School.

She was a member of the Maurice Reformed Church, where she gained an early foundation in the Christian faith.

In 1952, she moved into Maurice where she was a caretaker of her father and cleaned homes for many people in the area. In October of 2000, she retired and moved to Orange City, and in April of 2004, she became a resident of the Heritage House Nursing Home, also in Orange City. She transferred to the Prairie Ridge Care Center when it opened in October of 2013.

Survivors include her brother, Robert Vander Broek, and his wife, Alice, of Sioux Center; a sister, Helen Vlieger, of Ontario, California; two sisters-in-law, Edna Vander Broek, of Orange City, and Della Vander Broek, of Milford; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Raymond Vander Broek; two brothers-in-law, Vern Riphagen and John Vlieger; and two sisters-in-law, Alma Vander Broek and Joyce Vander Broek.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Prairie Ridge for their care and love for Myra these last twelve years.

Memorials may be directed to the Prairie Ridge Care Center.
