Mrs. Robert Fischer, 25, the former Evelyn Jochum of Alton died at Sioux Valley Hospital early Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered a few hours earlier in a two-car head on collision on Highway 10 a mile west of Paullina.

Mr. Fischer and Ross Sidney Jr. 36, of Des Moines had cuts and bruises and were taken to the Cherokee Hospital, where Mr. Fischer was released the following day.

Officers said the collision occurred when Fischer sought to pass a semi-trailer, driven by John Decker of Ireton.

Evelyn Jochum was born July 24, 1935, near Alton, and attended St. Mary’s School. After graduation she was employed in Sheldon. She was married April 3, 1956 to Robert Fischer of Granville and the couple began farming in that vicinity.

Survivors include her husband and four children, from four years to seven months in age: Sharon, Roger, Ronald, and Duane; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Jochum of Alton; five sisters; Mrs. Vincent Byers of Sioux City; Mrs. Roy Murphy of Sheldon; Mrs. Elmer Rolfes of Luverne, Minnesota; Martha and Rita Jochum of Alton.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Joseph Church, Granville, of which she was a member. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America and Christian Mothers Confraternity.

The many Alton and Granville friends of the family extend heartfelt sympathy.
