From the Alton Democrat, February 19, 1921: Boyden news:

Mr. J. W. McCrum passed away at his home here on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 10th, after an illness of several weeks. Though he had been in a serious condition since about the first of the year, there were hopes that he might still be able to enjoy fairly good health again, but complications made this impossible. Mr. McCrum was 67 years of age and had resided in Boyden for more than 30 years during which time he had established and operated a very successful business institution, the Boyden bank. His business affairs will be taken over by his son, Paul McCrum.

The funeral services, which were held at the First Reformed church on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock were in charge of Rev. McConnell, assisted by Rev. Douwstra. Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery. Two sisters of the deceased from Cherokee and Mr. Rhynsberger, a brother of Mrs. McCrum, from Indiana, were in attendance at the funeral.
