LAST RITES HELD SATURDAY FOR LONGTIME RESIDENT OF SIOUX AND UNION COUNTIES

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Finnie, who died suddenly at her home last Thursday morning, were held at 2:30 at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon with Reverend J.H. Flaming in charge. James Squier sang two solos. Interment was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Viva Collins, daughter of Albert and Anna Collins, was born February 7, 1877, at Elk Point, South Dakota, where she spent her early years. She came to the Hawarden vicinity when 13 years of age. She took a two-year normal course in the Hawarden Schools after which she taught in the rural schools in Union County three years.

She was united in marriage with Fred Finnie of Hawarden January 1, 1901, and after her marriage she lived on a farm south of Hudson. Later she came to Hawarden where she lived many years. Prior to coming to Hawarden, she spent one year in North Dakota.

She is survived by the widower; one son, Albert Finnie of Huntington Park, California, one grandson, John Finnie of Fargo, North Dakota, and two sisters, Mrs. Josie Marshall of Hawarden and Mrs. Edna McCluney of Rector, Arkansas.

Mrs. Finnie was a member of the Baptist Church and its various women’s organizations. She was a faithful attendant in Sunday School. She was also a member of the Progressive Club.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. Edna McCluney of Rector, Arkansas, Mr. and Mrs. Will Seward and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nystrom of Elk Point, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gullberg and Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Kuoro of Sioux Falls, H.M. McCreery and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Olson of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Finnie of Clinton, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Kopecky of Callender, Iowa, John Finnie of Fargo, North Dakota, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Finnie of Alcester.

Albert Finnie of Huntington, California who planned to attend the funeral of his mother, was delayed at Kansas City after being slugged and robbed, so did not arrived until after the services. However, the remains were left at the church until he arrived late in the afternoon.
