The hand of death visited our community Thursday and took from our midst a man of thirty five years of age, in the person of Fred Gerst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Gerst. He was taken sick about a week ago with influenza and lingered until Thursday when he was called to his reward. He has been a resident on his father’s farm 6 ½ miles north of town for some time.

He leaves to mourn him three children; Mildred, Hedwig and Elaine, his wife having died nine years ago. Besides he leaves his aged father and four brothers and two sisters, Ed Gerst of Amber, Joe of Minneapolis, Mrs. Dom Jungers of Hospers, Rudolph, Arthur and Hilda at home.

The funeral was held from St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Alton this Friday morning at 8:30, Father Scherbering conducting the services. He was a member of the K. C.’s having joined the fraternity this last June. Dominick Jungers of Hospers was present at the funeral, those from any great distance being unable to arrive in time. The heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow.
