From the Rock Valley Bee, February 4, 1921:

DEATH OF E. M. BERG

The following from the Santa Ana, California, Register, concerning the death of E. M. Berg, a former resident of this vicinity, will be of interest:

"Funeral services for Mr. Erwin Berg were held in the funeral parlors of Mills and Winbigler, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Otto S. Russel of the First Baptist church conducted the services, using the ninety-first psalm, which was a favorite chapter of the deceased. The music was sympathetically rendered by Messrs. Russel, Frank Harris and Minnie Holmes.

Mr. Erwin M. Berg was born in Dane County, Wisconsin, November 30, 1868. He moved to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1902. While living in Wisconsin he was married to Miss Anna Stenseth, March 8, 1892. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Mrs. Lawrence Bolenbaugh is the only surviving child.

In 1913 Mr. Berg was married to Miss Margaret Varnell of Birmingham, Ala., who survives her husband. February 5, 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Berg came to California, making Santa [Ana] their home. Previous to coming here, Mr. Berg's life was spent on a farm.

About twelve days ago, Mr. Berg suffered an accident while felling trees, when a rope by some unavoidable means severed part of his thumb. From this wound tetanus developed last Thursday which resulted in his death Friday night at the Community hospital. The family has many friends in Santa Ana who sympathize with them in their sudden bereavement."
