From the Sioux County Herald, July 28, 1887: Boyden news:

Mrs. Ed. Lanning has been quite poorly since the birth of her babe and on Saturday she was taken worse and is now in a critical condition. All that neighbors and doctors can do, is being done, and all are very anxious to hear of her getting better.

From the Sioux County Herald, August 11, 1887: Boyden news:

As we said last week, Mrs. Lanning was thought by her friends to be much better, but the same day she suddenly got worse and died in a short time. While this was very unexpected to her friends, it was just what the doctor Cram and some others were expecting. Mrs. Lanning leaves a husband and two bright little girls about 7 and 9 years old besides the babe. These have the deepest and most sincere sympathy of the entire community.
