From the Rock Valley Bee, November 26, 1920:

GEORGE W. OSBORN DIES OF HEART FAILURE

George W. Osborn died at his home in Rock Valley last Thursday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock of heart failure. He had been apparently as well as usual during the day and had worked at his trade until about five o'clock in the afternoon when he quit because he had no more cement. He went directly home and died a few minutes later.

The subject of this sketch was born in Illinois June 4, 1864, and was fifty-six years, five months and fourteen days old. His early life was spent in the vicinity where he was born and he grew to manhood there. He came to Rock Valley over thirty years ago and had lived here almost continuously since that time. He was united in marriage March 2, 1889, to Bertha Wilson of Rock Valley. To this union seven children were born, two of whom, Frank and May, are living. Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Bostick of the Methodist Church, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery for burial.

Last Thursday, Nov. 18th, we were surprised to learn that George Osborn, an old resident of Rock Valley, had dropped dead at his home about 5:30 due to heart failure. He had been working during the day, and returned home about a half hour before his demise complaining of being chilly, and laid down on the lounge to rest when the summons came.

The deceased was born in the state of Illinois June 4, 1864, and at the time of his passing was 56 years, 5 months and 14 days of age. He came to Rock Valley in 1888. On March 2nd, 1889, he was married to Miss Bertha Wilson, and as a result of this union seven children were born to them, all of which preceded to that unknown realm, except Frank and May, who with the widow, four brothers and two sisters, survive him. He had been in the employ of Henderson Bros. as mason tender and was an industrious worker and strictly reliable. He was quiet and unassuming and was respected by his circle of friends.

The funeral services occurred at the family residence Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. T. S. Bostick, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment occurred in Valley View cemetery. The family have the sympathy of their friends in their hour of supreme sorrow.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has George (1865-1921) and Bertha (1871-1936 ss George) Osborne, buried in Valley View Cemetery. Despite the variant spelling of the surname and the discrepancy in George's dates, they appear to be this couple.
