From the Rock Valley Bee, July 16, 1920:

MEETS FATAL ACCIDENT

Word was received here Tuesday morning of the death of Lewis Dean who met with a fatal accident Monday [July 12] on the farm where he was working near Windom, Minn. He was helping build a hollow tile silo and was loading the tile in a carrier to be elevated to the top of the silo. He had sent a load up and the man at the top of the silo took hold of the carrier too soon causing the carrier to become unbalanced, and throwing the load to the ground, a distance of about fifty feet. One of the falling tiles struck Mr. Dean on the head, rendering him unconscious. Other workmen took him in a car to a hospital at Windom about six miles distant. He died about fifteen minutes later, never regaining consciousness.

The remains were brought to Inwood, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. J. McLean, relatives of the deceased, who reside at Windom, where funeral services were held from the Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon.

The subject of this sketch was born at Bridgeport, Connecticut, Jan. 12, 1880, being forty years and six months old at the time of his death. His parents died when he was three years old, and he was sent west to Inwood to make his home with his uncle George Anderson. After the death of his uncle he made his home with relatives, living most of the time in Rock Valley. He graduated from the Rock Valley High School, and after that carried mail out of Rock Valley for a number of years.

Besides other relatives he leaves to mourn three brothers and two sisters in New York. He was a man of good Christian character and highly esteemed by all who knew him.
