Sudden Death of R. P. Bader PASSED AWAY NEW YEARS EVE FROM HEART FAILURE Came to Hawarden Nearly 37 Years Ago.—Is Survived by Wife and Five Children

R. P. Bader, a pioneer carpenter and builder of Hawarden, died suddenly at his home here about 10 o'clock on New Years eve from heart failure. When he was first stricken members of his family hastily summoned a physician who administered a heart stimulant and he revived to a considerable extent and it was thought for a few minutes that he would presently be all right when he suddenly expired. He had not been in good health for the past year, although not many people were aware that he was ailing and during the past summer and fall he was unusually busy at his trade as a carpenter. He was engaged in carpenter work up to the week before his death.

Funeral services were held at the Associated Churches at 2:30 this afternoon in charge of Rev. Wm. Vance, the pastor, and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Russell Perry Bader was born at Wright's Corners, near Maquoketa, Iowa, Oct. 16, 1857, and died at Hawarden Dec. 31, 1923, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 15 days. His early life was spent at Maquoketa where he learned the trade of a wheelwright and carriage maker and he was associated with his father in that business for many years. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Etta Cluiter who preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 1887. Four children were born to them. Bert Mindale died in infancy and Samuel Ralph passed away on Jan. 8, 1902. The other two are Howard M. Bader of Hawarden and Mrs. K. J. Hancock of Elizabeth, IL.

He moved to Hawarden in 1887 and became a member of the firm of Griffin, Ruttan & Bader, contractors and builders, and with the exception of about ten years which he spent on a farm near here, he continued in the contracting business until his death.

In 1893 he was united in marriage with Effie McAninch. Three children were born to this union, all of whom, with the widow, survive and reside here. These children are Harry E. Bader, Mrs. David Engebritson and Lee R. Bader. He also leaves five grandchildren besides two sisters and one brother, Mrs. I. L. Wood, Mrs. Robert Blunt and 0. A. Bader, all of Hawarden.

Perry Bader played an important role in the development and up-building of the town and community. Coming here when the town was new, he had a part in the construction of many of the city's homes and business houses. He was always regarded as a careful, conscientious workman and earned the title of a master builder. He well merited the confidence and esteem in which he was held in the community and every man was his friend. Early in life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and for many years was a staunch member of the Presbyterian church of Hawarden. As a neighbor he was all that could be desired, helpful, generous and always obliging. As a husband and father he was kind, loving and considerate of the every wish of the members of his family and set an example in the community worthy of the emulation of his family and friends. His sudden passing is a shock to the entire community and many hearts are saddened because of his death.
