Clara "Grace" Warner, 104, of Sioux Falls died Nov. 11, 2015 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Sat. Nov. 14 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden with memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home West Side Chapel, Sioux Falls.
Clara Grace Vogelzang, daughter of John and Dora (Haarsma) Vogelzang, was born on June 13, 1911 in Sioux County. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1930, then attended college at Sioux Falls College, Wayne, NE. and Dakota Wesleyan. She began her career as a teacher in Sioux County.
Grace married Layfe Warner on Dec. 18, 1941 in Elk Point. The couple moved to Canton, S.D. where she worked as a substitute teacher. While in Canton, she helped her husband in the Council Oak Store. The couple moved to Mitchell, S.D> where Grace substituted at rural schools until retiring in 1960.
Layfe died August 12, 1989. In 1996 Grace moved to Sioux Falls and lived at Trail Ridge Retirement Community.
Grace was a member of North Ridge Baptist Church in Mitchell, and was also a past member of the Baptist Church in Hawarden and Canton. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling by bus on tours.
Survivors include a niece; two great nephews; and many other relatives.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers; two sisters; a brother-in-law; a niece and a nephew.
