Paul "Smiley" Emil Lindgren, 84, of Alcester died Nov. 25, 2015 in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held Sat. Nov. 28 at First Baptist Church in Hawarden.
Paul Emil Lindgren was born June 18, 1931 in Hawarden to Emil and Johanna (Jensen) Lindgren. He attended rural Edwards School and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1949. After graduation, he worked at different jobs around Hawarden. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Germany, French Morocco and various places in the United States, until he was honorably discharged in December of 1955. Paul returned home and farmed until 1970. He then worked for the Union County Department, until retiring in 1993.
Paul was a member of First Baptist Church in Hawarden. He was also a member of the Alcester VFW and the Hudson American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and took many fishing trips to Canada. Paul was an airplane enthusiast and liked to attend airshows in the area.
His survivors include three sisters, Patricia (Jim) Dunnam of Hawarden, Peggy (Larry) Nilson of Hawarden and Pauline Popken, Elma, IA; and many nieces and nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Lindgren.
