Rites At Co. Seat For Mrs. H. DeJong
Mrs. Tena De Jong a former Orange Cityan passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 17 at the home of her daughter and family, the Rev. Herman Dirks family in Monticello, Ind. Mrs. De Jong left O.C., because of ill-health 2 years ago to live with the Dirks family. Prior to that time she had been a resident in the Pioneer Home at Orange City, for a period of 6 years.

Born June 18, 1874 at Orange City, Mrs. De Jong spent her entire life in this vicinity until two years ago. She was married to Henry De Jong of Maurice who preceded her in death in 1923. Surviving are the children: Judith (Mrs. Herman Dirks of Monticello, Ind.; Richard De Jong of Artesia, Calif.; Marie (Mrs. John Conway) of Dayton, Ohio, and Blanche (Mrs. Douglas Arner) of Princeton, N.J., and seven grandchildren; one brother, Neal Schalekamp of Orange City, and four sisters: Mrs. Kate Orton of Sioux City; Elizabeth Schalekamp of Santa Ana, Cal., Mrs. Merle McNutt of Sheldon and Mrs. Gt. Noteboom of Orange City.

Mrs. De Jong is the fourth member of the Schalekamp family to pass on in the past year and a half. Preceding her were Dick Schalekamp of Sheldon, Henry Schalekamp of Sioux Center and Cynthia Schalekainp of Santa Ana, Calif.

Mrs. Herman Dirks and daughter Mrs. Phillips arrived with the body coming by train Monady noon. Mrs.John Conway arrived by plane and Richard De Jong also came for his mother's funeral. Services were held in the Trinity Ref. Church with Rev. Chas, Boonstra officiating. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
