Mrs. Gerrt J. Brands passed away at the home of her son, Jake Brands, northwest of Rock Valley on Wednesday, March 13, following an illness of a few days with a blood clot in one of her legs.

Mrs. Reintje (Vryhof) Brands was born in Holland on February 1, 1870, where she spent her early life and grew to Womanhood.

She was married to Gerrit J. Brands in 1892.

The family came to this country twenty-one years later, locating near Hull, and later moving to this vicinity where she spent the remainder of her life. Her husband died five years ago.

Besides other relatives and many friends, Mrs. Brands is survived by nine children, five children having preceded her in death. The living children are, E.O. and John Brands, Rock Valley; Bert and Mrs. Nellie Drooger, Edgerton, Minnesota; Mrs. Gertrude Brouwer and Mrs. Artie Brouwer, Inwood; Henry, Jake and Gerrit, Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, in the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery.

The many friends of the bereaved children extend to them sincere sympathy.
