Gerrit Brands Dies, Chairman Of County Board Of Supervisors

Gerrit Brands, 61, chairman of the Sioux County Board of Supervisors for the last 10 years, died at the Rock Valley Hospital last Thursday, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held on Monday for Mr. Brands at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Reverend Leonard Van Drunen officiating.

Brands was buried in the Valley View Cemetery.

Brands was born on August 21, 1910 [must be 1911!] in the Netherlands. He came to the United States at an early age.

He married Bertha Van Zanten on March 13, 1928 at South Sioux City and farmed in the Rock Valley and Lebanon areas many years. He was elected to the Sioux County Board of Supervisors in 1953.

Survivors included the widow, two sons, three daughters, three brothers, three sisters, and 18 grandchildren.
