P.H. De Jong, a pioneer of Sioux County passed away at his home at Hospers on Dec 14th. He was born on a boat while it lay at anchor preparatory to sailing to the US. He had lived at Newkirk for over fifty years and he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding there a year ago last October.

(His wife is listed in the Sioux County cemetery index as born 1849 and died 1924. No newspaper obit could be found on line. At the time being from Hospers sometimes the news got missed in area papers. Edith Sipma was married 24 Oct 1871 at Orange City IA to Peter Hein De. Jong born 9 Apr 1847 died 14 Dec 1922.)
