From the Alton Democrat, May 11,1918:

In Memory of Jacob Fisch

After an illness extending over a period of nearly two years, Jacob Fisch passed to the Great Beyond at the family home at Granville, on Wednesday, May 1st, 1918, at 4:35 p.m. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church at that place Saturday, May 4th, at 9 o'clock, Rev. Father Wendell conducting the service, and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Granville.

Jacob Fisch was born in Germany March 30, 1844, and came to the United States in his early years, locating at Granville thirty-five years ago, which place he made his home until death. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Beglar on March 3, 1868, and to them were born ten children: Mrs. S. E. Tanton, Mrs. J. H. Karnoff, Mrs. A. R. Knight and Mrs. F. F. Probst, all of whom reside in North Dakota; J. W. Fisch of Montivedio[sic] Minn.; T. F. Fisch of Edgerton, Iowa; F. M. Fisch of Tripp, S.D.; Mrs. S. D. Probst of Waverly, Minn.; Miss Zeta and Matt of Granville.

In his early life he became a member of the Masonic lodge. He was Past Master at Granville for the last fourteen years. Banks of beautiful flowers surrounded the scene where the last sad rites were presented from the ritual of the Holy Catholic church, Father Wendell paying a last touching tribute to the memory of the departed one, and creeds, sects and all material things were forgotten by the congregation of genuine mourners who had gathered--men and women from every walk of life, followers of many faiths, yet with one great throbbing heart of sympathy and sorrow because the man whom they had known and loved in life was dead. Just as there are depths to the ocean to which the plummet will not descend, so there are sentiments in the heart sometimes that cannot be measured or expressed. But the time has come and we will say goodbye, and we can only wonder if those flowers with their petaled lips and perfumed breath did not whisper to him in fragrance the sentiment that is too tender for words.

His demise is deeply mourned by the children mentioned above, his beloved wife who is now in her 69th year; an adopted granddaughter, Miss Lillian Fisch; a sister, Mrs. Fred Bowen, Sr., of Cherokee, Iowa; and a brother, Michael Fisch of Hilbert, Wis., besides many more distant relatives and scores of near and dear friends.
