Mrs. Joy De Wit, age 78, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, July 25, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Aldon Kuiper will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the funeral home.

Joy Marie was born on December 25, 1937, at Middleburg, the daughter of Henry and Marietta (Jacobsma) Van Oort. She was raised in the Middleburg and Doon areas and attended a country school near Middleburg and the Orange City and Doon Christian Schools.

On November 15, 1957, she married Martin Roy De Wit at the Doon Christian Reformed Church. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a cook at the Unity Christian High School and Hope Haven Residential Training Center.

Mrs. De Wit was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the Monica Society and Senior Fellowship. She enjoyed baking, stitchery, family camping vacations in Yankton, and attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her husband of more than 58 years; six children and their spouses, Arlan and June De Wit, of Boyden; Rhonda and Gerald Postma, of Ireton; Robert and Laurie De Wit, of Jewell, Iowa; Lyle and Pam De Wit, of Ireton; Loren and Julie De Wit, of Orange City; and Amy and Bill Davis, of Maurice; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Joe and Henny Van Oort and Vern and Sharon Van Oort, all of Doon; and a sister, Shirley Rens, of Hull.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald Rens.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Reformed Church and the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
