Mrs. Verna Wallinga, age 86, of northwest Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Akron Care Center.

There will be a celebration of her life on Monday, July 18, at 2:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Steven Bierly will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Verna Rose was born on February 14, 1930, at Hull, the daughter of Gerrit and Winifred (Finn) Bomgaars. She was raised at Hull, where she graduated from high school. She also attended a cosmetology school.

On October 16, 1947, she married the love of her life, Donald Marion Wallinga, in Elk Point, South Dakoia. They first farmed at Hull, where she was a homemaker. They then lived in Matlock, Sheldon, Archer, Primghar, Hospers, and Sheldon again. Don passed away on May 8, 2006, in Sheldon.

Mrs. Wallinga then moved to Hawarden, where she became a resident of the Hillcrest Care Center. On July 22, 2015, she moved to the Akron Care Center.

In earlier years, she was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church and the Eagles’ Club, both in Sheldon. She loved all animals, especially dogs.

Verna had a great sense of humor and always put a smile on everyone’s face. She will be dearly missed by her family and all the many lives she touched.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Donna and Gerald Moret, of Troy, Missouri; Jack and Bonnie Wallinga, of Sutherland; Susan and Arlen Maranell, of Akron; and Donald and Louise Wallinga, Jr., of Primghar; ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Damen Dau; and three brothers, Clayton, Joel, and Warner Bomgaars.
