Kenneth Wayne was born on May 29, 1951, at Orange City, the son of Lloyd and Hendrene (Wielenga) Van Gorp. He was raised on a dairy near Orange City, and attended the Orange City Christian School, MOC High School, and Northwest Iowa Community College. He served in the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Fort Hood, Texas, from February 22, 1971, to November 22, 1972.

On June 2, 1972, he married Carol Lynn Huenink at the Maurice Reformed Church. They made their home on a farm north of Orange City, where he farmed and owned Ken’s Repair. He was always up to a customer’s challenge.

“Ken” was a member of the Middleburg Free Grace Reformed Church, where he had been on the consistory and the property and grounds committee. He was also a member of the Rural Water #1 Board. He enjoyed biking, canoeing, and visiting with and helping his neighbors, and was known to be quite the prankster. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of more than 44 years, three children and their spouses, Kevin and Heather Van Gorp, of Bondurant, Iowa; Craig and Rachel Van Gorp, of Orange City; and Kelli and Baron Hendricks, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren, Brenden, Rian and Kale Van Gorp; Brady and McKenzie Van Gorp; Faith, Tatum, Dakota, and Brazell Hendricks; Tayveon Feenstra; and Markiyah Emmelkamp; two brothers and their wives, Arlin and Janene Van Gorp, of Sioux Center, and Ray and Lori Van Gorp, of Orange City; Carol’s brother, Ken Huenink, of Alton; Carol’s two sisters and their husbands, Lisa and Troy Henggeler, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Kristin and Jay Irwin, of Kansas City, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Debra Jean Van Gorp; and Carol’s father, Richard Huenink.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a Type 1 Diabetic Alert Dog for Ken’s granddaughter. She is honored to know that she will always have a little piece of papa protecting her through the dog.
