Ronald Glenn, the son of Louis and Johanna (Stander) Van’t Hof, was born on March 17, 1937, on his parents’ farm near Newkirk. He attended the Newkirk High School and Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, before graduating from the University of South Dakota in Springfield.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Beth Boeyink on July 24, 1959, in Sioux Center. Most of their married life was spent on their acreage just west of Hospers. After two years working for an auto repair shop, Ron opened his own shop. In 1967, he became an instructor for the auto body repair program at the Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. He taught for 30 years, retiring in 1997. In 2008, he and Sharon moved to a home in Hospers.

Ron had a wide variety of interests including hunting, fishing, bee keeping, and playing Carrom. His talent was evident in his antique auto restorations, his abilities as a gunsmith, and the beautiful items he built out of wood, including a jewelry box for each of “his girls”.

Mr. Van’t Hof was a member of the First Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon, youth group leader, and taught Sunday school for 20 years. He had been active as a Gideon, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Ronald was always willing to visit with others, especially about their common interests. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his ability as a craftsman, and his role as an educator.

He is survived by his wife, three children and their spouses, David Van’t Hof and Janet Patton, of Star, Idaho; Ronda and Dane Walters, of McAlisterville, Pennsylvania; and Sharla and Jay Kleinwolterink, of Hospers; six grandchildren, Tom Bierma, and his wife, Betsey, of Steelton, Pennsylvania; Katie and her husband, Eric Wirt, of Thompsontown, Pennsylvania; Roni and her husband, Travis De Groot, and Luke Kleinwolterink, all of Hospers; and Janelle and Krista Van’t Hof, both of Star, Idaho; five great-grandchildren, Trenton, Gage, and Cole De Groot, and Hannah and Hailey Wirt; two brothers-in-law, Gary Boeyink, and his wife, Lois, of Pella, Iowa; and R.G. Boeyink, of Sioux Center; three sisters-in-law, Jeri, and her husband, Tom Groves, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Joan Van’t Hof, of Orange City; and Emogene Raak, of Hospers; and several nieces and nephews.
