From the Sioux County Index (Hull), October 19, 1917:

Obituary.

Miss [i.e., Mrs.] Margaret Schwartz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Meyn, was born near Wastade, Lahmstedt, Hannover, Germany, May 19th, 1850. In 1875 she came to America and made her home at Muscatine, Iowa, where she met and married Christian Schwartz and where she resided for about six years. They then came to Sioux county and located at Rock Valley and lived there two years, going from there to a farm which they purchased in 1884. Mr. Schwartz died in 1899, leaving the mother to bring up a family of six children, which she has done and lived to see them pretty well provided for.

Mrs. Schwartz had never suffered from ill health until attacked with diabetes less than a year ago, but which did not keep her to her bed till about a week before her death, which occurred on the 11th day of October, 1917, at 11 p.m.--her passing away being calm and peaceful. She was 67 years, 4 months and 22 days old.

Six children were born to the Schwartz family all but one of whom survive a fond, loving, Christian mother--a true and faithful member of the German Lutheran faith. The mourning survivors are her children--Mrs. Martha Sayles, of Mitchell, S.D., Henry Schwartz, of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Marie Schwartz, Peter Schwartz, John Schwartz and Mrs. Emma Peterson, of Doon; her sister, Mrs. Sophia Beckmann, of Hull; her brother, Wilhelm Meyn, of Lahmstedt, Germany, and four grandchildren.

The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, with services at the house, the church and the graveyard, Rev. P. J. Bunge, her spiritual pastor, officiating and Messrs. Louis Wendorf, Henry Stoehr, John Tiedeman, John Techen, Albert Techen and Will Lutjens as pallbearers. A large number of friends paid tributes of love and respect to the bereft relatives. The Index joins the friends of the bereaved family in extending sympathy in the hour of their trial. [followed by a few lines of sentimental verse]
