Ten days after the community mourned the loss of one of her best known citizens, Mr. G. (Gossen) De Boer, His widow, Mr. Mina De Boer left her earthy home to follow her husband into the great beyond.
Mr. DeBoer had been not well for some time and upon advice submitted to an operation for cancer in one of the hospitals at Grand Rapids MI where she had gone with her daughter Mr. Thomas Baker. She had intended to stay with her daughter who’s husband is completing his Seminary Course at Holland MI, but Gods will was otherwise, and he took her home on Monday evening March 17.
Mrs. Mina De Ross De Boer was born 68 years ago at Oosterlitten Friesland Netherlands and came to this country with her parents at the age of 17 some 53 years ago. 41 years ago she was married to Mr. Gossen De Boer and has far the last 31 years made her home at Hull.Two brothers and one sister proceeded her in death, one brother still survives he, O. De Ross of this place and also two half sisters, Mrs. Mulder of Carmel and Mrs. Y Mulder of Sioux Center. She is also survived by 5 children and eleven grandchildren.
The surviving children being: Mr. C. C. De Boer of Arlington SD, Mrs. Fannie Baker of Holland MI, Mrs. Ella Heusinkveld of Hull IA; Mr. John De Boer of Hull, and Rev. D. G. De Boer of Marlborough, NY.
Mrs. De Boer was a member of the First Reformed church at Hull. She was one of the most faithful members of the Ladies Aid Society. As a Christian she was known for her beautiful character and consecrated spirit, and far reaching influence which was very much predominant in her Christian life.
At her funeral which was held from the First Ref. Church on Thursday March 20, 1924, the Ladies Aid attended in a body, and the large crows which came to pay respects to her remains, was a testimony of the love and respect which they had for Mrs. De Boer. Rev. J. H. Kregel assisted by Rev. J. Engelsma of Orange City as life long friend of the deceased and Rev. Stoppels of Hull officiated at the funeral.
