Funeral services for John Block, 70, were held on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. February 29 fro St. Anthony’s Church at Hospers with Reverend Msgr. George J. Theobold officiating. Burial took place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews: Gerald Block, Joseph Blom, Jerome Jungers, Michael Jungers, Franklin Wilhelmi, and Roy Murphy.

John N. Block was born April 13, 1893, at Granville, to Nick and Marie Remacle Block and passed away February 27, 1964, at Hospers, Iowa. He lived in the Hospers community all his life except for a few years with his parents at Perry, Oklahoma.

He was married to Cecelia Jungers November 27. She passed away on December 23, 1923. He is survived by three children, Oscar of Remsen, Ambrose of Hospers, and Frances (Mrs. Ray O’Kane) of Hospers; two brothers, Mike of Ashton, Henry of Marcus, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilhelmi of Le Mars, Mrs. Pete Wilhelmi of Struble, and Mrs. Hugo Jochum of Alton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Felix Jungers and one brother, Nick.

He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
