Daniel Bloem, a resident of Rock Valley for the past forty-two years, passed away Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Van Geest, with pneumonia. Mr. Bloem was taken sick on Thursday and was at once taken to the home of his daughter, where he failed rapidly, being sick only a little over four days.

Mr. Bloem was well known in Rock Valley and vicinity and had many friends here, who was surprised and shocked when they learned of his sudden death.

Mr. Bloem was born in Westerli, Netherlands, April 10, 1862, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage in the Netherlands with Fannie Lewis in 1887. To this union nine children were born. He came with his family to this country in 1889, coming directly to Rock Valley, where he spent the rest of his life. His wife preceded him in death fourteen years ago.

The surviving children are Delko of Sioux City; Mrs. Gerrit Ver Meulen and Mrs. John Van Geest, of Rock Valley; Herman of Elyria, Ohio; and Mrs. Herman Vander Well of Boyden. He also leaves one brother, Jerry Bloem of Winifred, South Dakota and one sister, Mrs. Daniel Vander Laan, Netherlands. All of whom except his sister, were here for the funeral services, which were held Wednesday afternoon in the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley.
