Michael Fouhse Answers Summons

Micael Fouhse died at his home in Rock Valley at three o'clock Sunday afternoon [October 16]. Mr. Fouhse had not been in good health for about three years, but was up and around until a week before his death. He submitted to an operation for appendicitis Saturday. He rallied from the effects of the operation, and seemed to be getting along nicely, until pneumonia developed, and at his advanced age, he could not survive.

Mr. Fouhse was well known in Rock Valley and vicinity. He had lived here for more than forty-five years. He was a quiet unassuming man, and kind at heart. He will be greatly missed in his home circles, and especially by his aged wife.

Mr. Fouhse was born at Edisheim, Germany, November 12, 1856 and had attained the age of 76 years, 11 months and 4 days. His early life was spent in his native land where he grew to young manhood. He came to this country forty-seven years ago, and located at Buffalo, N.Y., where he lived a year and a half, coming from there to Sioux county. He lived on a farm near Rock Valley two years and then moved to town, where he spent the rest of his life.

He engaged in blacksmithing here and followed that trade for about thirty years. He retired about twelve years ago. He was united in marriage with Luisa DeMay, April 3, 1888, who survives him. He also leaves one stepson, Fred DeMay, and some grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from St. Mary's church in Rock Valley on Tuesday morning, and the remains were taken to St. Mary's cemetery, southeast of Rock Valley.
