DEATH CALLS EARLY PIONEER [OF] ROCK VALLEY
Nellie Hazlitt Tuynman Born Here In Year 1871

Last rites were held for Mrs. Nellie Tuynman, early pioneer of the Rock Valley vicinity, at the Anderson Funeral home, at Canton, S.D., on Sunday afternoon, November 22, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Wendell Johnson of the Methoist church of Canton, preached the funeral sermon. Dwight Slade sang two solos--"The Old Rugged Cross" and "Peace."

Nellie Hazlitt, daughter of Henry and Mary Hazlitt, was born on a farm seven miles west of Rock Valley on April 6, 1871, and lived in this vicinity nearly all her life. On March 8, 1898, she was married to Cornelius Tuynman who preceded her in death on March 30, 1916. Also preceding her in death were her parents, six brothers: John, William, James, Harry, Frank and Alfred, and one sister, Addie Tuynman.

She is survived by two sisters--Mrs. Anna Koltze of Canton, S.D., and Mrs. Clara McKinney of Hudson, S.D., and by a number of nieces and nephews.

She had been in failing health for the past three years and on August 16, last, she was taken to the McKennan hospital at Sioux Falls where she died November 20.

Burial was in the Sioux Twp. cemetery beside the remains of her husband. Pallbearers were Ollie Kaskie, Almon Coyer, Charley Groth, Henry Groth, Hans Balstad and Gus Anderson.
