Carl Pennings, age 58 of rural Orange City, passed away Monday Dec. 22 at his farm home after a long illness.
Carl Edwin was born June 17, 1928 at Orange City, the son of William J. Pennings and Clara Muilenburg Pennings. On Aug. 19, 1948 he married Marlyn Mouw at Orange City. They farmed south of Orange City.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City where he had served on the consistory as an elder and a deacon. He had also been president of the board of directors of Sioux Rural Electric Cooperative Association and a member of the board of directors of Farmers Mutual Coop Elevator, both in Orange City.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. Arlen (Carla) Leinart of South Sioux City, NE; two sons, Clark and Craig, both of Orange City; one granddaughter; a brother Arthur of Minneota, MN; and one sister, Mrs. Paul (Vera) Colenbrander of Holland, MI.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Johanna.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 26 at the First Reformed Church with Rev. Cecil Martens and Rev. Paul Colenbrander officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van-Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
