James Bloemendaal was born on a farm near Alton, on July 17, 1892, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett J.G. and Johanna (Van Ek) Bloemendaal who were pioneer settlers in Sioux County. He died at his home in Orange City on July 12, 1955 at the age of 62 years. Death came suddenly as a result of a heart attack.

Mr. Bloemendaal spent his entire life in Sioux County excepting for about seven years of retirement at Okoboji, Iowa. Last year he and his wife moved to Orange City where he resided at the time of his death.

He was a successful businessman and most of his years were devoted to the hatchery and poultry business in Northwest Iowa.

He was married to Kate Rens and three sons were born as the issue of this marriage. The oldest son, Everett, preceded him in death about 33 years ago. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing, his wife, Kate; two sons, Lawrence of Alton, and Kenneth of Hartley; three grandchildren; five brothers and one sister, John Bloemendaal, Henry Bloemendaal, Ralph Bloemendaal, Gerrit Bloemendaal or Orange City, Bill Bloemendaal of Everly and Mrs. William Van Steenwyk of Orange City. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, at the Orange City Auditorium with Clyde Johnson and Wooster Patton officiating. Pallbearers were Daniel Watson, John Nyhoff, Gerrit Lyzen, Marion Vander Laan, John Kreykes and Kenneth King.

Burial was in the Orange City Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.
