Mrs. Clara Bloemendaal, age 74, of Orange City passed away Tuesday, December 24, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 28, at 10:00 a.m., at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Pastor Jack Gray will officiate. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City were in charge of arrangements.

Clara Christine was born September 28, 1917, at Ireton, the daughter of Hendrikus and Ella (Walraven) Eggink.

After the death of her parents, she was raised by an uncle in Sioux Center. She graduated from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and was a teacher in a country school for a year.

On January 20, 1939, she married Gerald Bloemendaal at Orange City. They farmed at Hospers for two years and then farmed at Newkirk until 1961.

Mr. and Mrs. Bloemendaal then operated a motel in Hartley for about four years and later moved to Florida. In 1967, they returned to northwest Iowa, settling in Orange City.

She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include her husband; six children, Marilyn, and her husband, Ted Uittenbogaard, of Escpndido, California; Linda Clark; David, and his wife, Joyce; and Jolene, and her husband, Terry Mouw, all of Orange City; and Jean and Jerry, and his wife, Mary, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, three halfbrothers, Alden, Nicholas, and John Walraven; and half-sister, Coba Walraven.

Memorials may be directed to the George G. Spellman Dialysis Unit at Marian Health Center.
