Mrs. Arie Bloemendaal, formerly Helen Smit of Alton, died at four o'clock on the afternoon Of September 21, at a local hospital. She was born September 11, 1909, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smit. She was graduated from the Alton High School, and employed by the West Iowa Telephone Company before her marriage to Arie Bloemendaal on February 20, 1935. To this union two children were born, Canstance Rae, 9 and Larry, 6.

Surviving are her husband and two children, her mother, Mrs. Lena Smit of Alton, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. F. R. Sawyer of Fort Worth Texas, Mrs. John Kleinhesselink and Mrs. Gertrude Kleinhesselink of Orange City, Mrs. J. A. Lawlor (a twin sister) of Clinton, Mrs. J. R. Westphal of Waterloo, Lt. Col. Walter Smit in the Army stationed in Italy, Major Charles R. Smit in the Army on Saipan, and Lt. Frederick D. Smit with the Air Corps at Long Beach, California.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home and at the Christian Reformed Church. Burial was in the local cemetery. Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Mrs. F. R. Sawyer, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lawlor, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Westphal, Mrs C. R. Smit of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Mrs. Walter Smit of Monticello, and Lt. Frederick Smit.
