Mrs. Henrietta De Jong, age 86, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, June 10, at 10:00am, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Henrietta was born on June 25, 1929, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Sneller) Zwiers. She was raised at Sioux Center, where she graduated from high school.

On September 14, 1950, she married Gilbert De Jong in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City until 1966, when they moved to Carnes. Gilbert passed away on February 16, 1997.

“Retta” was a homemaker. She was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Cheryl and Phil Berkenpas, of Orange City, with their children, Eric and Kathryn Berkenpas, with their children, Ella Mae and Joshua; Nicolas and Tisha Berkenpas, with their children, Liliana and Daniel; and Matthew and Sonya Berkenpas; Barb and Hal Alsum, of Alton with their children, Hal and Sara Alsum, with their son, Wendell; Erin and Mike Edzards; and Mark and Rebecca Alsum, with their son, Wyatt; Mary and Gary Reinders, of Orange City, with their children, Megan Reinders and Zach Miller, with their son, Oliver; Emily Reinders and Matthew Mook; Grant Reinders, Joseph Reinders, and Samuel Reinders; and Karen and Milt McPike, of Orange City; with their children, Steven Harvey and Caitlyn Gerchak; Shawn and Jo Ellen Harvey, with their sons, Jacob, Caleb, and Andrew; Bailey Harvey, and Hayley McPike; and a sister-in-law, Irene Smeenk, of Jenison, Michigan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Carol; a granddaughter, Sarah Harvey; and two sisters, Marge De Vries and Jennie Keith.
