Ford, Alma R. (Mrs. Donald Keith) 1927-2016

Alma Ruth was born on March 11, 1927, on a farm near Alton, the daughter of Andrew and Eva (Bloemendaal) Oordt. She attended the Newkirk grade school and then moved to Orange City where she attended high school. After graduating, she went to Northwestern College, in Orange City, where she received her associate teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Spirit Lake, where she met her future husband.

On June 16, 1948, she married Donald Keith Ford in Orange City, where they spent most of their married life. Alma continued teaching for 20 years. She and “Don” were members of the American Reformed Church for over sixty years.

Survivors include her husband of more than 67 years, Don; two daughters and their husbands, Susan and David Meylink, of Rock Valley, and Stephanie and David Mahoney, of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; a son and his wife, Donald, Jr., and Linda Ford, of Lakeville, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Haenfler, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Marlene, and her husband, Dennis Rons, of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
