Death of Conductor Coleman
Last Friday evening the people of Hull were terribly shocked when the news reached them that C. B. Coleman conductor on the way freight had been run over and killed by the cars at Canton. As Near as we can glean the facts it appears that they were doing some switching at Canton, between 12 and 1 o’clock. He had cut out two cars and in some way slipped and fell. In falling he caught held of the beam and was dragged a short distance till his foot caught in a frog when he had to let loose and fell under the car. His body was terribly mangled and death must have been instantaneous.

The remains were as neatly as possible prepared for the coffin and shipped to Sanborn early Saturday and interment took place in Hope Cemetery under the auspices of the O. R. C. Masons and K. I’s of which he was a long member. The funeral was one of the largest that ever took place in Hull and would have been larger could more coaches have been secured for the special.

Mr. Coleman leaves a wife and two children a boy and a girl an aged mother and some brothers and sisters to mourn his loss. Mrs. Coleman better known in Hull as Miss Lena Henry has many warm friends here, where she lived for many years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Henry, now of Orange City whose sorrow on account of their love for her is nearly as great as hers or as near so as love and respect can make it. Sympathy is heartfelt and sincere, and the Index wishes to be included among the sorrowing friends.

(The Sioux County cemetery Index lists C. Burgess Coleman born 1860 died 22 Sep 1905 buried Hope Cemetery at Hull IA.)
