Mrs. Nic Cleveringa
Mrs Nic Cleveringa, the former Gertrude Jurink, was born attended the Newkirk church until on Dec 7, 1911, she married Nic Cleveringa and they farmed near Boyden and attended the Reformed church at Boyden They then moved near Hawarden and attended the First Reformed church of Sioux Center In 1919 they moved to the Newkirk area where they then attended the Reformed church. Mrs. Cleveringa was a faithful worker in the Women’s Ladies Aid until she moved from her home in Newkirk to the Homestead in Sioux Center. Much of her life she attended Sunday school. She was ever interested in the church and missions.

The survivors are four children: Hester, Mrs. William Peuse near Middleburg; Henry of Jasper. Minn.; Dena, Mrs. Henry De Boer of Brookings, South Dakota; and James, living near Newkirk. Also there are nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Sena, Mrs. Cornie Rensink of Hospers, and Hattie, Mrs. James Boerman of Hull, besides many relatives and friends. Her husband and her parents, one sister Emma,Mrs. Bert Jacobs, and two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Newkirk Reformed church on Wednesday, March 7, 1973, with the Reverend Clarence Van Heukelom officiating. Stanley DeHaan sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Rock of Ages" accompanied by Mrs. Audley Dolphin on the organ. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Dwane Cleveringa, Michael Cleveinga, Norman Cleveringa, James De Boer, John Peuse, and Klaas Van Beek. Interment was in the Newkirk cemetery with arrangements by the Van Etten funeral home at Orange City.
