Anna Maria Wilhelmina Beckman, nee, Harms, was born November 23, 1863, at Bederkes, Hanover, Germany. At the age of eighteen years she immigrated to America and arrived on the 15th day of May, 1882.

In the same year, on the first day of October, she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Beckman, and for over forty-three years had been his true helpmate, always concerned about her husbands welfare, ever active to maintain a cheerful and attractive house, knowing no sweeter pleasure than those of home and no higher duties in everyday life than those which she owed to her husband and children.

Six children were born to them, one son, Henry having died at the age of five months. The other five survive and are :Mrs. Lens Breuer; Mrs. Maria Peterson; Herman; Mrs. Lizzie Lutjens and Heini. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Beckman lived for three years on a farm in Garfield Township, Lyon County. Then they removed to Sioux County and for 23 years lived on a farm in Section 4, Lincoln Township. In 1908, they retired from farming and made their home and place of business in Hull.

Up to the last months of her life, Mrs. Beckman enjoyed the best of health. In November, she as compelled to consult a throat specialist. The physician did what could be done, but they could give only temporary relief. Almost to the last moment she was conscious and although unable to speak, she gave those about her to understand that she believed and rejoiced in the assurance given in that wonderful 23rd Psalm. She slept away quietly at about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, on the 20th day of January having attained the age of 62 years, 1 month and 27 days.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church, north of Hull, last Sunday, and she was laid to rest in the family lot, nearby, Reverend Gonringer officiating.

The Index wishes to add its sincere sympathy to the grief-stricken husband and children.
