Henry J. Beckman of Granville died Sunday at the age of 82 years at his home there, following an illness of a year’s duration closing a long life all of which was spent in Iowa. He was born at New Vienna, Iowa, near the western edge of Dubuque County, on July 31, 1849, the year of the great gold rush. He grew to young manhood and was married at New Vienna to Miss Elizabeth Klaus who survives her life partner. After residing in eastern Iowa for a number of years they decided to move west, coming to Sioux County in 1895 where they farmed and were very successful in this occupation. They raised a family of eight children, one child having died in infancy. Each is a highly respected citizen in the community in which he or she lives.

The children are as follows: John, Granville; Anton, Dyersville, Iowa; Henry, Granville; Frank, Granville; Louis, St. Joe, Michigan; Mrs. Frank Vortherms, Granville; Mrs. Hans Paulson, Granville; and Mrs. Joseph Plagge, Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Funeral services for the pioneer were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Granville at 8:30 A.M>, August 12, the last rites being conducted by Reverend Laurence Schoeppner, and interment took place at Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
