From the Alton Democrat, August 16, 1913: Rock Valley News:

Jacob Pefferle[sic] was born May 11th 1849 in Sulzfield Baden Germany and died at his home east of Rock Valley August 6th of hemorrhage of the brain, aged sixty-four years, two months and twenty-six days. The deceased was married to Miss Regina Bauer at Zaisenhousen Germany in 1873, and as a result of this union, six children -- four daughters and two sons--came to bless their home, one of which died in infancy.

Being young and full of ambition they came to America in 1881, and located for a while in Wisconsin, then moved to Sioux county and located on a farm east of town where he resided till his death. He enjoyed a degree of prosperity and acquired a comfortable home. He leaves two sisters and three brothers, two of his brothers residing in Germany. He was a good father, a good neighbor and enjoyed the esteem and confidence of all.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bunge at St. Paul's Lutheran church north of Hull August 10th, after which his remains were consigned to the last home of man. The wife and following children are left to mourn the death of a kind husband and parent: Mrs. Regina Hinsch, Hull Iowa; Mrs. Louise Antritter, Moosejaw, Sask., Canada; Mrs. Katherina Scharff, Threeforks, Montana; Miss Emma Pfefferle, Glenwood Iowa; Wm. Pfefferle, Rock Valley Iowa. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their hour of grief.

From the Sioux County Index (Hull), August 15, 1913:

Our brother in Christ, Jacob Pfefferle, was born in Salzfeld, Baden, Germany, the 11th of May 1849 as the son of David and Regina Pfefferle. He was baptized and confirmed in the old country ad was married I 1873 to Miss Regina Bauer. They had six children, 2 boys and 4 girls, of whom the youngest son died long ago. He emigrated with his family to America in 1881 and lived first in Sheridan township, and for the last 21 years in Rock township.

Our deceased brother did not enjoy very good health, his nervous system was weak. About 10 years ago he became seriously ill at several times, which weakened his system and mind to a great extent. The hemorage[sic] of the brain was the cause of his death, which occurred between 11 and 12 o'clock Wednesday night the 6th of August.

The deceased was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church of Lincoln township since 1879. He was 64 years, 2 months and 26 days old. The mourning survivors are his faithful wife Regina nee Bauer[;] his children are: Mrs. Regina Hinsch of Lyon county, Iowa, Mrs. Louise Antvitter of Moosejaw Canada, Mrs. Kathryn Schaff of Threeforks Montana, Miss Emma Pfefferle of Glenwood Iowa and Wm. Pfefferle at the home place, a brother David Pfefferle, of Minnesota, a sister in Wisconsin, a sister in Nebraska, 2 brothers in Germany and many other relatives and friends. He was buried the 9th of August at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran cemetery, Rev. P. J. Bunge officiating. Many friends [and] relatives were present.
