Supt. P. Leistra Funeral Will Be Here Tomorrow
Peter A. Leistra, county superintendent of schools of Mahaska county, a Rock Valley native, died Monday evening as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he has been living for the past six years.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday in Oskaloosa and will be held tomorrow, Friday, Oct 2 at 1 p.m. at the Wm. Evers home Hull, and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. A. A. Dykstra officiating.

He was born on a farm near Rock Valley Oct. 18, 1899. He lived here and graduated from Doon high school. After teaching in the area for a few years, he attended Hope College in Holland, MI. and Grinnell College at Grinnell and University of Minnesota. He taught school some time at Gowrie and later was a social worker at Sac City.
He was a veteran of the First World War and served with the Red Cross during the Second World War. After the war he worked for the Veterans Administration in Sheldon, Spencer, Mason City, Fort Dodge and other places in Iowa.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Evers of Hull, one brother, John Leistra of Rock Valley, two nieces, Mrs. Herman Dykstra, and Jan Leistra, an aun, Mrs. John Driessen Sr. also of Rock Valley and other relatives. He is preceded in death by a sister Cora and a niece, Mrs. William Van Berkum and his parents, Peter Leistra and Jane Hoekstra Leistra.
