Sarah N. Ervin, 93, of Hawarden died Sunday, August 28, 1994 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation began at noon on Tuesday at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ervin, the former Sarah Naomi Lansdowne, was born August 12, 1901 in Lawrence, KA, the daughter of John and Susan Lansdowne. She was reared and educated in Kansas. She came to Hudson, SD, in 1919 and moved to the Hawarden area in 1921. She married John H. Ervin on December 17, 1922 in Hawarden. They farmed in Union County, SD for 19 years and moved to Hawarden in 1941. Her life centered around her home and family, with growing flowers and handiwork as her hobby. John died November 4, 1980. She was a member of the Hawarden United Methodist Church and was active in Sunday School in former years.
She is survived by a son, Orlyn "Ken" Ervin of South Sioux City, NE; 3 daughters, Mrs. Dean (Nona Ruth) Wilson of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Marlin (Neva) Schwiesow of Sylmar, CA, and Mrs. Robert (Yvonne) Koob of San Luis Obispo, CA; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and 2 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Darwin; a daughter, Dixie; her parents; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; and a great granddaughter, Stacy Wilson.
